Colorado Avalanche center Matt Duchene Tweeted Tuesday that he has signed with Swedish team Frolunda HC in the Swedish elite league during the NHL lockout. Duchene tweeted “Can’t wait to arrive in Gothenburg on Tuesday evening and to get an Indians jersey on.” Later on Duchene tweeted “To all the Avs fans, I’m even more to get back in the Burgundy and Blue! Hopefully it is soon.”
Avalanche Captain Gabriel Landeskog, who is from Sweden, later Tweeted that Duchene should have to speak Swedish while there since he has to speak English while with the Avalanche.
Duchene is the second Avalanche to sign to play in Europe with Seymon Varlarmov signing with a team in Russia last week.
